Warmth

A month in review:

1. I am going on a trip to Paris over my Spring Break with my Grandma! I have been taking a French class for the last couple of months and it has been amazing. I am so excited!!!

Paris!

2. Our sweet Lily passed away after 14 years of unconditional love and is now resting in peace. She was such a beautiful princess and is so missed, but she is in a better place. I imagine that she has found the biggest stick in heaven and is playing keep away in the greenest sunniest grassy meadow. Rest in peace, sweet Lily. I love you!

3. These tulips helped bring hints of spring into our home. It feels like sunshine in a jar!

Tulips!

4. And we have some coming up outside the door, along with some hyacinths!

Planties!

5. Planning a wedding with this handsome man has been the best adventure of my life! I can hardly wait to be married to him.

6. Also, these two cuties drove down from Michigan to visit us and the ever so talented Leigh took our engagement photos! Hooray! It was so wonderful having you two visit. Can’t wait to see you again soon!

7. Things are starting to bloom ’round these parts! It makes me giddy every time I see them. Ahh spring! How I’ve missed you.

Crocuses!

8. Also, ice cream is the bees’ knees. Especially on warm, sunny days.

Chocolate on chocolate

9. Most especially ice cream eaten with this handsome fella.

10. And spring warmth means Wedge weather! ‘Nuff said.

My life juggling has gone to a new level – full-time job, planning a wedding, yoga, French class, Spanish class, trip to Paris, trip to Spain, and all of those other sundry life delights. Somehow it all feels just perfect. This year is full of so many blessings. And I am so happy!

Life lately has been a bit crazy. A lot going on! But life is marvelous! So much to be thankful for: my family, my Scott, an awesome job, so much love from so many munchkins, curiosity, spring, flowers, warmth, this Sunday is my birthday, Scott graduates in two weeks, and a vacation in a month to the Northeast! Let’s be honest – I’m not doing very well with posting regularly. I’ll probably post soon about my birthday shenanigans!

Lately.

Fun things happening around here! Spring is in the air!

We have been going for walks at the Biltmore a lot lately. The weather over these past few weekends has been absolutely gorgeous! Oh, and the cows. Love the cows!

Biltmore Cow!

Finally went to The Hop for the first time! I had Sweet Beet – beet ice cream! And it was delicious!!! I never would have thought of something like that, and I love it! Especially in a waffle cone with tiny chocolate chips. Omnom!

We had our favorite pooch for a few days last week! Her humans went out of town and we had the pleasure of hosting her at our place! Such a sweetheart. Love you Cricket!

On Thursday evening we went to the Thirsty Monk for the Mystery Brewing event! Had a flight of four of their delicious beers. It was a fun evening out! If you get the chance, check out Mystery Brewing Company at the Thirsty Monk! Excellent brews!

Tailor and Stylist Mermaid Maxi Skirt 1

I found Tailor and Stylist through Bridget from Tales of Me and the Husband. She has a post about this skirt and when I saw it I loved it. It’s so effortless and fabulous and comfy and chic! And in my efforts to expand my wardrobe and find new things that are different from my same-old-same-old I am excited to add this into the mix! Oh, and it’s super fun to twirl.

snow to sunshine

On Tuesday I decided not to lead my kids in a snow dance for fear that it would jinx any chance of us actually getting the forecast snow, and therefore also jinx our possibility of a snow day. So instead we all just carried on as normally as we could. As we were getting ready for bed on Tuesday night I looked outside my window, shrugged, and tried to remind myself that it wasn’t supposed to start snowing until after midnight anyway.

Wednesday morning looked like this:

A light dusting

Snow day!

Ladies and gentlemen, I do live in the south and this immeasurable light dusting closed school for the day! We had a snow day!!! After receiving four text messages, all telling me school was closed, I bounced around looking out the windows excitedly since it was the most snow we’ve gotten in a long time. Then I tried valiantly to go back to sleep since I had the opportunity to sleep in as late as I wanted, but that just wasn’t going to happen. So, after some breakfast and lounging, I set up my “office” and had a spot of productivity.

The snow, as per the norm here in the south, did not stick around for very long and the days got warmer very quickly. On Thursday morning I rediscovered my pink kicks and reveled in their pinkness all day. And it was a good day.

Pink kicks.

The days continued to get warmer and Saturday was absolutely gorgeous. Scott and I, both feeling rather blah lately (come back, immune system!), enjoyed a long walk at the Biltmore in hopes of kick-starting our health. I, for one, would like to think that it worked.

French Broad River March 2013

What a week, indeed.

Maine!

We spent the latter part of the weekend up in Maine! Let me tell you all about it!

Sunday, May 20, 2012: We drove up to Maine and visited some of our favorite places in Freeport, ate at Linda Bean’s Maine Kitchen and Topside Tavern, and sipped iced coffee from Coffee by Design on the porch of the LLBean Home Store. The weather in Maine was absolutely gorgeous – bright and sunny, warm, with just enough cool breeze.

Just outside, by the boot, there was a very animated woman from the Center for Wildlife holding a Great Horned Owl!!! All of the photos of her that I took she’s making kind of a funny face. She told us all about the Great Horned Owl, showed us a California King Snake, an Eastern Screech Owl, and a Box Turtle (that was over 40 years old). She even demonstrated the calls of various owls! All of the animals were rescued and she called them the ambassadors for those species.

After we spent some time in Freeport, we drove up to Brunswick and Bath to look around a bit, and then back down to Portland. We walked around in the Old Port for a while, went down one of the piers to see the water, and ate dinner at Gritty McDuff’s.

After dinner we kept heading south to Goose Rocks Beach where we popped our tent on the porch of the house, went for a walk down Kings Highway, and crashed for the night.

Monday, May 21, 2012: After a night of sleeping with the sound of crashing waves, we woke up with the sun poring into our tent. It was glorious! We ate a little diner called All Day Breakfast, spent the morning walking on the beach and relaxing. Went to Cape Porpoise to the Cape Pier Chowder House for some lunch, and spent the afternoon doing some more relaxing and walking on the beach. It was an absolutely beautiful day! Then we packed up the car and went to Federal Jack’s for dinner before heading back to Massachusetts. We had an absolutely wonderful weekend in Maine! So glad we were able to make it up there.

The I’ve-been-super-blog-lazy post.

A little ketchup … er … catch up.

Dry humor, love it or leave it. Have you met my boyfriend? Enough said. Anywhooo.

Monday, March 19, 2012: My orchid looks a little bit like lots of tiny angry dragon heads. Especially the one in the back there. I’m officially in love.

Tuesday, March 20, 2012: This is what our second bedroom currently looks like. Scott is building a bicycle.

Wednesday, March 21, 2012: We went for a walk/run today at the Biltmore and it was gorgeous. Again. Still! The view of the house was awesome and the geese are everywhere! There are dozens of Canada geese at the Biltmore and they are very bold creatures. This one watched me very carefully as I got closer and closer, but didn’t move away from me.

Chasing Rainbows

Friday, August 26, 2011: Yesterday Scott and I went for a rather impromptu drive South on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was absolutely beautiful up there! We got as far south as Mount Pisgah and it started to rain, so we pulled into the parking area and overlook to watch the storm and wait until it let up a bit to head home. After a bit of heavy rain the sun started peeking out from behind the clouds and a spectacular rainbow arched right in front of us in the hollow (pronounced “holler” here in Appalachia). It was incredible! And after some patience and a bit more rain a second rainbow appeared faintly beside it. Snapped some photos and headed home.

beeeeezy’s for breakfast. mmm.

Sunday, June 5, 2011: Walked to Beezy’s for breakfast today. Brunch, really. We went halvsies on two dishes: one Pepper & Egg Sandwich and one Baked French Toast. And two bottomless cups-a-joe. It was delightful. A really wonderful way to start the day. Then we wandered around two cute little shops in Ypsi and meandered home. Gorgeous weather, wonderfully walkable, nice breezes, inquiring kitty. Mmm vacation. : )
