A month in review:

1. I am going on a trip to Paris over my Spring Break with my Grandma! I have been taking a French class for the last couple of months and it has been amazing. I am so excited!!!

2. Our sweet Lily passed away after 14 years of unconditional love and is now resting in peace. She was such a beautiful princess and is so missed, but she is in a better place. I imagine that she has found the biggest stick in heaven and is playing keep away in the greenest sunniest grassy meadow. Rest in peace, sweet Lily. I love you!

3. These tulips helped bring hints of spring into our home. It feels like sunshine in a jar!

4. And we have some coming up outside the door, along with some hyacinths!

5. Planning a wedding with this handsome man has been the best adventure of my life! I can hardly wait to be married to him.

6. Also, these two cuties drove down from Michigan to visit us and the ever so talented Leigh took our engagement photos! Hooray! It was so wonderful having you two visit. Can’t wait to see you again soon!

7. Things are starting to bloom ’round these parts! It makes me giddy every time I see them. Ahh spring! How I’ve missed you.

8. Also, ice cream is the bees’ knees. Especially on warm, sunny days.

My life juggling has gone to a new level – full-time job, planning a wedding, yoga, French class, Spanish class, trip to Paris, trip to Spain, and all of those other sundry life delights. Somehow it all feels just perfect. This year is full of so many blessings. And I am so happy!

What awesome teachers!?

It was absolutely awesome! What a terrific field trip. If you’ve never heard of them and you have kids, you should totally check it out! Secret Agent 23 Skidoo is a positive hip hop band geared toward kids with positive messages about life. And the music is totally fantastic! So, naturally, we went all out and got dressed up and got the kids all hyped up and had a wicked good time!

ma birfday.

Cinco de Mayo started out a tad bit disappointing, to be honest. I had a hunch, having followed the weather all week, that it was going to rain on my birthday. I did not, however, realize just how cold it was supposed to be and just how much it would rain and that said rain would continue almost without a break all day! Let me set the stage for you: usually the weather is absolutely gorgeous on my birthday. There are lots of flowers involved and sunshine and warm weather and outside and springy clothing and sandals. This year there was rain and large gusts of wind and jackets and boots and wool socks.

BUT! (And this is a big but … har har har.) It was a truly wonderful birthday!

Rubbish weather

The day started out with some quintessential music. Followed by the crepe-master in his element! Scott has really become quite the pro. We had delicious crepes with nutella, raspberries, mango, and powdered sugar. Perfection!

After a gloriously lazy afternoon we headed downtown for some more celebrating! Had dinner at Mamacitas and a little party at the French Broad Chocolate Lounge. Thanks to all my friends who came to help me celebrate and brought fun games to play! It was so much fun to relax and hang out with everyone.

And of course, thanks to this handsome guy for making me feel so special and for lighting so many birthday candles! You are my favorite and I am so lucky to be with you! Thanks for everything you do!

P.S. Thanks for the love from all around the country! I loved getting to chat with everyone who called. Long-distance love!

Life lately has been a bit crazy. A lot going on! But life is marvelous! So much to be thankful for: my family, my Scott, an awesome job, so much love from so many munchkins, curiosity, spring, flowers, warmth, this Sunday is my birthday, Scott graduates in two weeks, and a vacation in a month to the Northeast! Let’s be honest – I’m not doing very well with posting regularly. I’ll probably post soon about my birthday shenanigans!

seis años: our anniversary.

Last Monday, April 1, was our anniversary! (No April Fools joke here.) It is hard to believe, but it was six years ago that we started this crazy adventure together. It has been a most wonderful six years!

We met during Orientation Week at Warren Wilson College in August of 2006. Fresh out of our parents protection, on our way to one of the many assemblies we attended that week teaching us about all manner of college-y things, Scott and I met for the first time. He introduced himself and I informed him that there was a Scott Anderson at my high school and that I didn’t like him very much. I kid you not – famous first words. He probably thought I was the weirdest and that he had better steer clear of me for the foreseeable future. A wise man, indeed.

Fast forward to Spring 2007. Scott melded into our friend group and we started hanging out more. But really, just friends. We spent a bit of time getting to know one another over Winter Break chatting online, but that does not necessarily correlate to best friends in real life. The day he was supposed to fly up to Massachusetts for Spring Break his flight was cancelled (much to my Southern astonishment) due to snow up in New England . He tried to reschedule his flight out of Asheville – to no avail – and I suggested that he could come home with me and catch a flight out of RDU instead. He took me up on the offer, came back home with me, and flew out a couple of days later. We chatted several times throughout the week, but I insisted to my mother (who rather surreptitiously suggested that he was quite handsome) that we were JUST FRIENDS. Upon our return the following week we flirted our faces off, I repeatedly asked my roommate if she thought he liked me (because, come on, it’s what girls do – thanks Leigh!), she rolled her eyes at me because it was quite obvious that he did, we decided we were “a thing” around April 1, and the rest, as they say, is history.

The first few years of our relationship involved meeting in the dining hall for breakfast together, finding each other for lunch together between classes and work, and spending our evenings doing homework in the same room. So romantic, I know. But really, it was perfect. I was in heaven! Up until Scott I was convinced that all boys were afraid of me and that I would spend my entire life single trying desperately not to frighten boys away. Ah, high school, how I do not miss thee.

The semester before I graduated, Scott decided to take some time off from school. He came down to celebrate my graduation and then we both headed back up to New England. I moved to Maine and lived there for a few months, then moved to Massachusetts and lived with Scott and his parents until he and I made the move back to Asheville. We have now been back in Asheville for almost two years, Scott is almost finished with is degree and graduates in May, and we are happier than ever!

We never really do a whole lot for our anniversary, but we usually try to at least go out for dinner to celebrate. This year we opted to try Wicked Weed for our anniversary dinner date! It was a really superb choice, if I do say so myself. The weather was glorious, the sun was shining, and the eats and brews were splendiferous. We give it a Siskel-and-Ebert-style two-thumbs-way-up. And on our actual anniversary we went out for a treat at the French Broad Chocolate Lounge with my mom, since she was in town visiting. All in all, it was the perfect way to celebrate – low key, fun, with some delicious food, and great company.

Fun things happening around here! Spring is in the air!

We have been going for walks at the Biltmore a lot lately. The weather over these past few weekends has been absolutely gorgeous! Oh, and the cows. Love the cows!

Finally went to The Hop for the first time! I had Sweet Beet – beet ice cream! And it was delicious!!! I never would have thought of something like that, and I love it! Especially in a waffle cone with tiny chocolate chips. Omnom!

We had our favorite pooch for a few days last week! Her humans went out of town and we had the pleasure of hosting her at our place! Such a sweetheart. Love you Cricket!

On Thursday evening we went to the Thirsty Monk for the Mystery Brewing event! Had a flight of four of their delicious beers. It was a fun evening out! If you get the chance, check out Mystery Brewing Company at the Thirsty Monk! Excellent brews!

I found Tailor and Stylist through Bridget from Tales of Me and the Husband. She has a post about this skirt and when I saw it I loved it. It’s so effortless and fabulous and comfy and chic! And in my efforts to expand my wardrobe and find new things that are different from my same-old-same-old I am excited to add this into the mix! Oh, and it’s super fun to twirl.

I am so thankful for today.

I woke up with a sore throat. Day six of a sore throat. Needless to say, it was not a great start to the day. But I managed to turn things around and make it a good day!

It was a peaceful day with my munchkins. It snowed while we were out on the playground – just flurries, and no accumulation, but it was snowing nonetheless. And I was pleasantly reminded that these kids – my kids – really are something else. They are sweet and loving and smart and creative and funny. Don’t get me wrong, they can be very challenging too, but today was a good day. And for that I am thankful.

Saturday morning

A walk

My handsome man

This weekend was wonderful. We took it easy since I was sick at the end of the week and am still getting better, but we still did exactly what we wanted. There was couch-sitting, coffee-sipping, waffle-eating, lounging, walking, beer-drinking, sun-soaking, and day-dreaming. The bulbs we planted in the fall are breaking through the ground outside the door and I love how they greet us whenever we are coming or going. Now there is banana bread in the oven and I am trying to stay in Sunday night as long as I can.
