storybook theatre camp

Last week was the bees’ knees.

It was my first time leading summer camp (instead of assisting) and it was so much fun! We did Storybook Theatre with The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. Throughout the week we acted out stories (The Three Little Pigs, The Little Red Hen, and Stone Soup, as well as The Very Hungry Caterpillar), painted props, rehearsed our show, had spontaneous dance parties, wore fairy and butterfly wings and capes, made antennae, and had a relaxed week of fun. On Friday the kiddos did a performance for their parents – the finale of all the work we did throughout the week. AND IT WAS FANTASTIC!

My confidence that everything would fall into place was boosted when pretty much everything did. Did I have a highly thought out plan for the week? No. Were there things that changed course in the middle of it all? Yes. Was it fun and adorable? Absolutely.

And I think I would like to wallow just a bit longer.
